About Cook Lookup

A no-fluff cooking reference. Built so you can find the time and temperature for any ingredient and method in one screen, without scrolling past someone's vacation story.

Who's behind it

Cook Lookup is built and maintained by Jeremy Fields. Home cook. Built the site because every cooking search ended in a recipe blog burying the answer under a wall of memoir.

Every page is structured the same way: the times, the temps, the safety numbers, and short opinionated notes from someone who actually cooks. No "let me tell you about my grandmother" intros.

How the data is sourced

Internal temperatures follow USDA and FDA food safety guidelines. Doneness charts and method-specific times come from a mix of standard culinary references, cross-checked with hands-on testing and chef-favored targets (e.g. medium-rare salmon at 125°F is widely served despite the USDA's 145°F recommendation, and we say so explicitly).

Every ingredient page that involves a food-safety target carries a Food Safety callout explaining where the number comes from and when chefs deviate from it. Burner-level guidance on stovetop methods is opinionated — built around what actually works at home.
